Jon Hitch, 76, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 3, in the comfort of his home.

He was born in in Crawfordsville, Indiana on January 24, 1942 to Herbert and Virginia Armstrong Hitch, both of whom preceded him in death. Jon was raised in the area of Bainbridge, Indiana and attended Butler University and Indiana State University.

Jon enjoyed a career with IBM and also farmed in the Putnam County area. He held a pilot’s license and also enjoyed flying remote-controlled aircraft. He was a car guy who raced go-karts and loved the Indy 500. He enjoyed boating and spending extended periods of time on the St. Lawrence River. He had lived in the Fountain City area since 1986.

Jon will be missed by his wife, the former Sharon Rothrock, to whom he was married on Christmas Eve, 1977; daughter & son-in-law, Kristina & Ryan Wysong; sons & daughters-in-law, David & Clara Hitch and Jonn Russell & Michelle Hitch; and nine grandchildren.

Jon’s life will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 7 at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather at the funeral home from 12-1 pm on Friday.
