Joseph “Rick” Richard Badgley, 71, of Spiceland passed away unexpectedly Monday June 14, 2021. He was born September 6, 1949 in Anderson, IN, a son of the late Richard Marion and Dolores (Woods)Badgley.

In 1968, Rick was a graduate of the first graduating class at Shenandoah High School along with his high school sweetheart and eventual wife of 52 years, Pamela Bailey. Rick retired from Duke Energy in 2008 following 38 years of service. He began working at Duke as a lineman then moved up to line service and prior to retirement was substation maintenance. Although Rick officially retired in 2008, he continued working with Duke as a contractor off and on until his passing. He had also served as Spiceland Town Marshall and helped the town with electrical line work.

Due to his extremely generous personality and dry sense of humor, Rick made lots of friends along his journey through life. Most important, he was a faithful Christian and had a strong love for God. Rick was a member and leader of the Sugar Grove Bible Church in rural Wilkinson.

Rick enjoyed masculine and artistic hobbies during his life. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle especially with his brother, Randy and his many friends. He was an avid outdoor sportsman; hunting and fishing were a must. Music was an enjoyment as well; he could play anything with strings and even wrote some songs. Rick loved self-learned hobbies such as making beautiful bow and arrows, knives, cabinets and carving. He could accomplish anything he put his mind to. Although Rick had lots of hobbies and was a hard-working man his whole life, his family was a top priority. He loved spending time with them especially while camping.

Rick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pamela (Bailey) Badgley of Spiceland; children, John Paul (Jennifer) Badgley of Westfield, Heather Lynn (Fredrick) White of Gosport and Benjamin Joseph Badgley of Spiceland; grandchildren, Grant and Emily Badgley both of Westfield, Abigail (Trey) Strukel of Spiceland, Marilyn White of Bloomington and Trent Brown of Spiceland; brother, Randall Marion (Debbie) Badgley of Greenfield; sister, Cheryl Dupke of Shirley; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jerry Dupke.

Services will be at 1:00pm Tuesday June 22, 2021 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Pastor Randall Marion Badgley officiating. Burial will follow in Circle Grove Cemetery in Spiceland. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00pm Monday at the funeral home. You may express condolences or share a memory of Rick at www.hinsey-brown.com.
