Obituaries - Julia Glidden McConnell

LEWISVILLE – Julia Glidden McConnell, 102 years old, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon October 27, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana while surrounded by her loving family.

The youngest daughter of the late Simon E. and Ruby (Chestnut) Glidden, Julia was born in Lewisville, Indiana on April 10, 1914. She was a descendant of Lewis C. Freeman, who along with James B. Harris, plotted the town of Lewisville on December 25, 1829. Julia graduated from Lewisville High School with the class of 1932. She had worked for Smith Jewelry Store in New Castle followed by her employment at the Indiana State House and Indiana Health Careers where she worked in their accounting departments. Julia was a member of the Lewisville Presbyterian Church, was active in politics, the democratic party and was fortunate to have had her photograph taken with President John F. Kennedy.

Survivors include her daughter, Kay McConnell Ryan of Indianapolis; 2 granddaughters, Cheryl Ryan Rawlings of Mulberry and Jennifer Ryan Browning of Mt. Summit; 5 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; 1 nephew and 2 nieces, including Gloria Smith-Taylor of Pennsylvania.

Julia was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Glidden; 2 sisters, Helen M. Smith and Adalene Glidden; son in-law, James Ryan.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday November 1, 2016 at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Lewisville Chapel. Following a private funeral service, burial will take place at the Lewisville Cemetery.
