Karen Lee Platt-Reece, age 72, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2018, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis surrounded by her family.

Born June 26, 1946, in Richmond, Indiana, to Edward Joseph and Dorothy J. Ebeling Stars, Karen was a lifelong resident of Richmond and New Paris, Ohio. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964 and received her associate’s degree from Miami University Hamilton.

Karen retired from Alcoa after 32 years and from Hills Pet Nutrition after 10 years and then worked as a customer service representative at Kohl’s. She was always in charge and spent her whole life dedicated to her family. Karen was always there for her family and would do anything for them.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, working in her yard, and going out to eat with her many groups of friends. Karen was a former Girl Scout leader and a PTO member at the former C.R. Coblentz School and various other organizations.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Gary Wayne Reece; daughter, Kim (Dan) Collignon of Ferdinand, Indiana; sons, Ken (Mandy) Platt of Wilmington, Ohio, and Paul (Sherry) Platt of Fountain City, Indiana; stepson, Bryan Reece of Richmond; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip Platt; father; mother, Dorothy J. Miller; sister, Judy Combs; and brothers, Mark and Michael Stars.

Visitation for Karen Lee Platt-Reece will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris.
