Kelly William Ward, 58, of Hagerstown, died at his home on Monday, May 1, 2018, after a nearly 5 year battle with cancer.
He was born in Winchester on February 2, 1960 to Donald and Joan (Thornburg) Ward and lived most of his life in Wayne County. Following high school, Kelly attended Lincoln Technical Institute. His strong work ethic led him from diesel mechanic to salesman and, finally, manager of Greens Fork Alignment in Muncie for over 20 years.
Kelly was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. He loved spending time with family and friends, grilling out, bike riding, and always had a “project”. He fought a long and hard battle with cancer and spent much time educating others about the disease.
On September 1, 1979, Kelly married his high school sweetheart, Lori Durbin, and she survives. Other survivors include his parents, Donald and Joan Ward of Fountain City; two children, Joshua Ward (Monika) of Richmond and Joseph Ward (Allyson) of Greens Fork; a granddaughter, Hadley; a grandson; a sister, Elaine Frost of Richmond; a brother, Steve Lines of California and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 5, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Rev. John Hall and Rev. John Luerman will officiate. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM on Friday at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown.
The family would like to thank Reid Hospice nurse, Rebecca and home health aides Sharon, Greg and Rick for all of their kind assistance. They also request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Cancer Society.
