Kent Edward Marshall, 57, of Pollocksville, NC went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 29th, 2019 around 2 pm in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Kent was a native of Straughn, IN and travelled across the United States with his family during his 30 years of service in the United States Marine Corps, as well as Japan, Philippines, India, and many other countries.

Kent achieved so much during his life, enlisting into the Marine Corps during his senior year of high school on March 24, 1980. He supported in “Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Sea Angel, Operation Horn of Africa, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom,” volunteering for Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island where his primary duties included Water Survival Instructor, Weapons Instructor, and Senior Drill Instructor. He completed his bachelor’s degree of science, majoring in government history at Campbell University on December 16, 2006.

After retiring from the Marine Corps as Master Gunnery Sergeant Marshall, Kent worked for Booz Allen Hamilton Inc. as a Senior Consultant, then as a Bulk Fuels EA Program Manager for Defense Logistics Agency, Ft. Belvoir, VA for the last four years. Kent had many hobbies through his life, but a few of his favorites were riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and playing with his Grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, and tinkering with various projects. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, and a loving papaw.

He became an active member of Memorial Baptist Church in Maysville, NC. He loved God and his church family at Memorial Baptist and spoke often of how wonderful the church is.

Kent is survived by the love of his life of 35 years this December, Myongsuk “Cathie” (Hockenberry) Marshall. Three Children, Jessica Irene Strachan, Sarah Ann (Andrew) Mocarski, and Kyle Dalton (Jessica) Marshall. Four grandchildren Maverick James Acuna, Maren Elise Strachan, Dominick Marshall Acuna, and Julia Jacqueline Bond. Six siblings: Two brothers, David (Willa) Marshall of Spiceland, IN, and Doug Marshall of Straughn, IN. Four sisters, Sharon Mullen of Cambridge City, IN, Vickie (Gary) Witham of Spiceland, IN, Marina (Jeff) Hartwig of New Castle, IN, and Amy (Derek) Grubbs of New Castle, IN. As well as his sister in law, Diana Leslie (Bowen) Marshall and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Sherman Kenneth “Joe” Marshall and Georgia Irene (Lynn) Marshall as well as his oldest brother Daniel Lynn Marshall.

The family would like to thank the Memorial Baptist Church, 3HC Hospice Care, UNC Chapel Hill Cancer Hospital Multidisciplinary Unit, and the support of many family and friends during Kent’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held 6 pm Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Memorial Baptist Church in Maysville.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 5 pm – 6 pm at the church.
