Lester J. Barancin, age 77, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Born October 2, 1940, in Bridgman, Michigan, to John and Mildred Barancin, Lester moved to Richmond in 1971. He graduated from Bridgman High School in 1958 and received a degree in engineering from Michigan Technological University. Lester worked at Belden for 17 years and retired from Guardian Industries in 2006 He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Society of Mechanical Engineers (SME). Lester loved fishing, camping, gardening, and attending auctions. He especially enjoyed participating in his grandsons’ Boy Scouts activities and volunteering at the church.
Survivors include his daughter, Courtney Barancin of Minneapolis, Minnesota; son, Matthew (Gina) Barancin of Hagerstown, Indiana; grandchildren, Brandon, Austin, and Savannah; sister, Karen (David) Oldenburg of Sawyer, Michigan; and brother, Jim (Sandy) Barancin of Manitou Beach, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Judith “Judi” Kidwell Barancin, who died February 9, 2012, and parents.
Visitation for Lester J. Barancin will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2018, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Gene A. Calicott officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
