Lewanna “Lee” Rose Copeland, 90, of Cambridge City, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. She was born on October 14, 1927 in Michigan City, IN to Undrel and Hallie V. (Bright) Hubble. Lee graduated in 1946 from Oakland City H.S. in Oakland City, IN and was the Homecoming Queen.
She and Wilford “Jack” Copeland married on July 4, 1949 in Evansville, IN and they moved to this area and together raised their 4 daughters. She was a long time member of Pershing United Methodist Church and a current member of Cambridge City First United Methodist Church. In 1989, she and Jack were Grand Marshals of the Canal Days parade. They celebrated their 65th Anniversary just prior to Jack’s death on August 2, 2014. Lee was an alumni of Psi Iota Xi sorority. She enjoyed coloring, reading and playing cards. Lee was a reading tutor for both elementary school children and adults. Most of all she loved time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.
Survivors include four daughters, Debra L. (Richard) Hamm, Nancy L. (George) Todd, Janet L. (David) Sweet and Susan L. (Jim) Peckinpaugh; 6 granddaughters, Angela Dixon, Trisha Todd, Sarah Potter, Kristi Henderson, Danielle Peckinpaugh and Nicole Gravelle; 4 grandsons, Dane Summan, Jonathan Sweet, Christopher Sweet and Kyle Peckinpaugh; 16 great-grandchildren(with another great-granddaughter on the way); a great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Alison Sweet and Robert (Robby) Henderson; and her brother, Robert Hubble.
Friends may call from 2:00 until 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 and funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Waskom Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with Rev. Max Milton officiating. Burial will follow in Zions Lutheran Cemetery in Pershing.
