Lovel Glen Potters, 89, went home to live with his heavenly Father on December 1, 2021 at Reid Health. He had been a resident of Hickory Creek since April, 2017.

One of seven children, Glen was born April 16, 1932, in Carter County, KY, to the late William Robert and Daisy Gertrude King Potters. Glen attended school in Carter County, Kentucky, Connersville, and Richmond, Indiana. In 1952, Glen entered the Army serving in the Hq Co 36 Army Engineer Corp. attaining the rank of Corporal during the Korean War. While in Korea, he drove heavy equipment trucks and soldier transports. During his time in the Army he played music, largely the doghouse bass and steel guitar with the USO. They played in officer’s clubs and about anywhere a band could play. As a result of his time in the Army he received the Korean Service Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star; National Defense Service Medal; the United Nations Service Medal; and two Overseas Bars. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1954, he returned to Richmond, Indiana and married Mildred (See) Potters on January 29, 1955. They were married 61 years before Mrs. Potters passed away on June 30, 2016.

In the 1950s through the 1980s, he enjoyed hunting rabbits; fishing, and mushroom hunting each spring with his brothers. In the summer he would play softball in Industrial Park for the D & M team, and watch his son climb the ranks in the Little League and Babe Ruth programs as a pitcher. He also enjoyed archery competitions in surrounding areas, and bowled on multiple bowling leagues. He and his brother, Cecil, built farm fences after working a full day at D & M. He worked at Design and Manufacturing and its successors for 34 years before retiring in 1994. Throughout Glen’s life, playing music was what he truly enjoyed. He could play any stringed instrument, but the steel guitar was the instrument he loved playing. Before his health declined he, and his brothers traveled as the Potters Brothers Band playing music in the tri-state area for nearly 60 years. They especially enjoyed playing in nursing homes and churches. More important to him were his grandchildren. He adored them. When physically able he attended ballgames, concerts and other school functions.

Glen and Mildred were Charter Members of the Connersville Baptist Temple. For over 25 years he and Mildred had been members of Calvary Baptist Church in Richmond, IN. Glen was a former member of the USO, the Eagles, and the Indy Steel Guitar Club. He also

Was awarded the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel.

Those left to cherish memories of Glen are: Daughter, Denise Bever and husband Mark; Son, Daniel Potters and his wife Leah; Grandchildren: Michael Bever of Connersville, Nicholas Potters of New Castle, Brian Potters his wife Christina of Titusville, FL, and Diana Potters, of Connersville. Two step-grandchildren, Christienna (Ryan) Marshal, and Joe Lore. Great-grandchildren include Breianna, Joshua, Isabella, and Nathaniel Potters, Stevie Jean and Adler Lore. One brother, Ben Potters of Connersville. He was blessed with dozens of nieces and nephews, who never ‘got’ his corny jokes!

The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Reid Hospice for the respectful care they provided for our Dad. We especially want to express how thankful and full of gratitude we are to the administrative team and the medical staff of Hickory Creek of Connersville.
