Richmond, IN – Lt Col William Judson Smith, age 90, of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, July 24, 2017, at Forest Park Health Campus.

Bill was born on March 11, 1927, in Ravenswood, West Virginia, to George William and Adra Eleanor Noland Smith.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1976, after 27 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Bill enjoyed gardening, music, and refinishing furniture and antiques. He was an experienced vocalist, who was a member and soloist of various Air Force Chapel choirs during his military service. Bill was also an amateur actor, performing with the Richmond Civic Theatre and Whitewater Opera Company. He was a member of Aston Masonic Lodge No. 12 A.F. & A.M., Jackson Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Dowell Commandery, and Knights Templar, all of Ravenswood, West Virginia. Bill was also a member of the Alaska Oriental Mission Church and Al Aska Shrine Temple in Anchorage, Alaska.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Rowena Hammontree Smith of Richmond; daughter, Amy Lee (Blaine) Miller of Arizona; son, Andrew (Rochelle) Smith of Richmond; grandchildren, Anna (Jacob) Brady of Richmond, Blaine Smith of Centerville, Indiana, and Mark Smith of Richmond; great-granddaughter, Lyla Rose Brady; and special friends, Kendra Lester and Amy Pardo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Martha Ann Shockey.

There will be no public services. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
