Wayne County health officials announced Monday that the county has its second presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in a resident.
The local patient is self-isolating at home, and no more information will be released because of privacy laws.
“In Wayne County we have been able to slow the case numbers down compared to some of our neighboring counties,” said Dr. David Jetmore, Wayne County’s health officer, in a news release. “This is all due to the sacrifices and cooperation of our citizens. We have always known we would have more cases; we just try to minimize the numbers.”
More East Central Indiana residents are getting COVID-19 tests, and deaths are being announced related to the highly contagious virus.
On Monday, Fayette County health officials have confirmed the eighth positive case of COVID-19 in the county, and has had one death.
Franklin County has had 28 cases and four deaths.
Randolph County remains at one case each and Henry County has two positive tests.
As of Monday morning, Reid Health had submitted 121 COVID-19 tests, with 11 positive results and 88 negatives. Twenty-two results were pending. Those 11 results come from Reid’s service area of six Indiana counties and two Ohio counties. It include patients who are hospitalized or self-quarantining.
As of Monday morning, Indiana has 1,786 positive cases from 11,658 test results that have been processed. Thirty-five Hoosiers have died from the illness.
As of Monday, nearby Ohio has 1,933 confirmed cases, with 163 intensive care unit admissions, 475 hospitalizations, 39 deaths. The median age of an Ohio COVID-19 patient is 53.
Darke County, Ohio, has 12 cases, and Preble County has 1. Butler County has 30.

Area health officials urge those who are showing symptoms – even mild symptoms – to not put the community at risk. Those who need to seek medical treatment need to contact their health care provider to get instructions before going to a medical office.

Those who are ill and need food or other items are urged to ask a friend or relative to drop items at the door, so they are not put at risk of contracting the virus.
Hoosiers are to continue staying at home until April 7, when Gov. Eric Holcomb’s order will be re-evaluated, and avoid close contact (within 6 feet) with others, even outdoors and wash their hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
“The next two weeks are critical if we are to slow the spread of COVID-19, and we must slow the spread,” Holcomb said in a news release. You must be part of the solution, not the problem.”
