Margaret Joan Vernon Heck, 87 of Connersville, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 18, 2018 at Golden Living Center of Richmond where she had been a resident since December of 2017.
She was born in 1931 in Chester, England, one of two daughters of William Arnold and Nancy Bowater Hinman Vernon. On May 1, 1954, she came to the United States and became a United States Citizen in 1970.
Joan had resided in Columbus, Ohio for a short time before coming to Connersville in 1955 where she and her family farmed in the Bentonville and Harrisburg areas.
She received her Bachelor of Nursing from Indiana University East. A Registered Nurse for Reid Hospital for two years, Joan then came to Fayette Memorial Hospital where she was a Nursing Supervisor for both Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Room, retiring on March 2, 2007 after 34 years of service.
Along with her family, she had been a devoted member of the Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a member of the American Nursing Association and in her leisure, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and reading.
Survivors include four children, Melany Heck, of Brownsburg, IN, Rachel Wiemann, of Centerville, IN, Andrew Heck, of Dallas, TX and Jane Herzog, of Centerville, IN; four grandchildren, Benjamin Ailes, Clinton Ailes, Emily (Patrick) Sturtz and Cassandra (Zack) Hansen; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Ailes and Lliam Hansen; a niece, Vicki Leary and a nephew, Roddy Leary.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sheila Vernon Leary.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staffs at Caroleton Manor, The Springs of Richmond and the Golden Living Center of Richmond.
A Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at 3:30 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home where family and friends may call from 2:30 until the time of the service on Saturday and anytime online at millermosterrobbins.com.
