Obituaries - Marilyn J. Rogers

STRAUGHN – Marilyn J. Rogers, 84, was found passed away at her home in Straughn on Sunday October 22, 2017. Marilyn was born at the home of her grandparents in Cambridge City, Indiana on May 17, 1933. Marilyn graduated in 1951 from Straughn High School where she was a cheerleader. Following high school, Marilyn attended Richmond Business College. She had been employed at the Richmond Crosley Corporation, Converto Manufacturing in Cambridge City, Dwight Bekner Law Firm in New Castle and retired from New Castle Farm Bureau. Following retirement, she took the position of Secretary to the Superintendent at Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Home in Knightstown and fully retired after forty years of total employment. Marilyn enjoyed music and was a member of the Straughn Community Chapel where she was pianist for over twenty years. She was able to bring enjoyment to many lives with her music. She was also a Sunday School Teacher and member of the Straughn Women’s Fellowship. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother and in her leisure enjoyed gardening, flowers, all nature, especially watching the birds.

Survivors include her 2 children, Michael Rogers of Sellersburg and Melinda Williams of Jacksonville, FL; 2 grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Rogers II of San Antonio, TX and Tabitha (Levon) Armstrong of Anderson; 3 great grandchildren, Lyda and Victoria Rogers and Maximus Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Marion Rogers on June 8, 2015. They were married in Lewisville on March 23, 1952. Her father Gerald “Pat” Wilson Murphy and her mother, Gladys (Fagan) Murphy.

Public Graveside Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday October 26, 2017 at the Lewisville Cemetery. Rev. David Branham of the Straughn Community Chapel will officiate with Rev.
