Mrs. Mary Jean Kirtley, 89, of Fountain City, passed away on Monday, May 14 at Kingston Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
Born on October 9, 1928 in Fountain City, she was the daughter of Homer and Elizabeth Clear Lacey. She was a 1946 graduate of Whitewater High School and became the bride of William Loren Kirtley on August 22, 1953.
Mary Jean worked many years as a bookkeeper, first for Richmond Home Telephone Company, GTE and later for Rodefeld’s Auto Parts. She was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed watching college basketball. She had been a member of Delta Theta Tau Philanthropic Society.
Mary Jean will be missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Brian Newnam; step-daughter, Cindy Barry; and sister, Carolyn Moore; nieces, Cheryl & Arthur Brown and Toby & Dewey Wright; two step-grandchildren and two great-nieces.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill Kirtley in 1999 and one sister, Barbara Ann Lacey in 1926.
A public graveside ceremony will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City.
