RICHMOND, Ind. – Mary Louise Hoppe-Markley, age 92, of Richmond, Indiana, died Monday, January 29, 2018, at Reid Health.
Born August 23, 1925, in Pueblo, Colorado, to John and Mary Mesojedec Germ, Mary lived most of her life in Richmond.
In 1951, she started Hoppe Jewelers on the front porch of her home with her husband, Robert.
The store expanded to downtown Richmond in 1975. In 2002, Hoppe Jewelers was consolidated to the one store in Hoppe Plaza.
Mary always greeted her many friends with a warm smile and looked forward to helping customers with their selections. She was very generous in supporting her community through her many donations.
Mary loved going to the theater and the symphony, and collecting movies. Mary’s family meant everything to her.
Survivors include her daughter, Lyn (Chuck) Hoppe-Bailey of Richmond; son, Scott (Angie Emerick) Hoppe of Centerville; grandsons, Ryan Bailey of Chicago, Illinois, and Arron (Jennifer) Hoppe of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Ryan Jr., Jakob, Gabe, Kaley, Olivia, and Bryce; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Markley; first husband, Robert Hoppe; parents; two sisters; and two brothers.
There will be private services for Mary Hoppe-Markley. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
