Melanie Rae Griffin Johnson, age 48, of Richmond, Indiana, died Sunday, May 15, 2022, at her home after a lengthy illness.

Born April 24, 1974, in Richmond, to Bobby Ray and Sharon Paddock Griffin, Melanie was a life-long resident of Wayne County, Indiana. She graduated from Hagerstown Jr. Sr. High School in 1992. Melanie formerly worked at Highland Heights and Crestdale Elementary Schools and Richmond High School as a Special Education Teacher’s Aide, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a homemaker, talented piano player, and an avid reader. Melanie was a member of the Nettle Creek Players Club. She loved spending time with her daughter, who was her biggest source of pride because of all her amazing accomplishments. Melanie cherished and cared about everyone around her, especially her family, and had the biggest heart and kindest soul. She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her husband of over 20 years, Charlie Johnson; daughter, Tabitha Johnson; mother, Sharon (Bill) Lasher; sister, Shannon (Greg) Dalton; aunts, including special aunts, Peggy (Chris) Cenova and Michele (Ronald) Dow; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins, including a dear cousin, Elizabeth (Ryan) Betts; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation for Melanie Rae Griffin Johnson will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greens Fork South Cemetery.
