Richmond Police Department has announced the search for a missing local man ended Monday afternoon (Feb. 25) with the discovery of his body.
Jerry A. “Jake” Huntington, 76, of Richmond, was reported missing Saturday by his family.
Huntington’s vehicle was located Sunday in the 500 block of Test Road near the Cardinal Greenway Trail and Whitewater River.
The area was searched, but Huntington was not located, according to Capt. Curt Leverton of Richmond Police Department’s Investigative Services Division.
On Monday, a search of the area resumed. At approximately 12:10 p.m., Richmond Police Department officers located Huntington’s body at the edge of the Whitewater River in the 2900 block of Liberty Avenue, Leverton said.
Wayne County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene and later transported Huntington to Montgomery County for an autopsy.
Richmond Police Department was assisted on scene by Richmond Fire Department Water Rescue Team and with use of their drone. Indiana Department of Natural Resources was also on scene assisting.

About Jake Huntington
Huntington was a lifelong resident of Richmond and graduated from Boston High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Alcoa/Silgan in 2005, after working there for 28 ½ years.
According to his obituary from Doan & Mills Funeral Home, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He loved helping others and always had a positive, “glass half full” attitude.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Kathryn J. “Kat” Eliason Isenbarger Huntington; daughters, Nat (Troy) Thomas of Florida and Kim Chenoweth of Lynn, Indiana; son, Rod (Kelly) Isenbarger of Lynn, Indiana; grandchildren, Zak, Niki, Kenzi, Sophi, Evan, and Gracie; sisters, Ann Revalee of North Carolina and Joanie Brown of Mississippi; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Klein; and brothers, Bob, Charles, James, Harry, Donald, and Tom Huntington.
Visitation is from 4-6 p.m. Friday, March 1, and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at Doan & Mills in Richmond, followed by a service at 11 a.m. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, Huntington’s family encourages friends to “pay it forward” and extend an act of kindness to someone.
