SALEM, Ind. – Norma J. Schneider, age 92, formerly of Centerville, Indiana, died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Salem Crossing Nursing Home.
Born August 17, 1925, in Center Township, Indiana, to Horace C. and Mary Geneva Kellam Staats, Norma lived most of her life in Centerville. She was a 1943 graduate of Centerville High School and attended Indiana Business College and IU East. Norma was an executive secretary in the superintendent’s office at the Richmond State Hospital, retiring in March 1995 after 19 years of service. She previously had worked as secretary for many years, employed by Centerville-Abington Schools at Rose Hamilton Elementary School and Richmond Community Schools at Crestdale Elementary School. Norma was a member of Centerville Christian Church since 1935, Beta Eta Chapter Psi Iota Xi Sorority, American Legion Auxiliary, Gold Star Wives of America Inc., Centerville Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary, the professional secretary’s organization of ABWA, and Gingham Gals Home Economics Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Illingworth of Scottsburg, Indiana; grandsons, Jeffrey (Gina) Illingworth of Camino, California, Jarred (Laura) Illingworth of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Jason (Melissa) Illingworth of Atascadero, California; great-granddaughter, Kenna Caroline Illingworth; half-sister, Dena Staats of Richmond, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell L. Schneider, who died January 16, 1976; son-in-law, K. Stephen Illingworth; parents; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin K. and Patricia Staats; and special cousin, Joyce C. Jones.
Visitation for Norma J. Schneider will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Centerville Christian Church, 111 North Morton Avenue, Centerville. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Centerville Christian Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Mills Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street, Centerville.
