Pauline Marie Conyers, 84, formerly of the Union City and Hagerstown areas, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, July 14, 2022, at Countryside Meadows Nursing Home in Avon, where she had resided for the past two and a half years.

Born May 9,1938, in Centerville, to James Floyd Sutherland Sr. and Mattie Will Rich Sutherland, she spent her childhood and youth, in Greens Fork, graduating from Greens Fork High School in 1956. She married Louis E. Conyers on May 19, 1956 at Greens Fork Church of the Nazarene. They celebrated 61 years together through many trials and blessings.

Pauline was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene until her husband’s illness prevented her attendance at worship. For over 60 years she had been a member of the Greens Fork Church of the Nazarene. There she had served as Sunday School teacher, Missionary President, song leader, youth leader and in various other capacities. After the congregation disbanded in 2001, Pauline first united with Blountsville Nazarene Church, and a few years later the Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene. Relocating to Union City in 2006 she joined the Nazarene Church and was a faithful member until her health declined and she entered the nursing home. When the Church permanently closed in 2020 her membership was transferred to Southwest Church of the Nazarene, in Indianapolis.

Pauline enjoyed reading romantic and Christian novels, cooking, needlework, crocheting, singing and researching family genealogy. She was a talented seamstress, often making her own clothing or altering existing pieces. For many years Pauline had a love for missions and enjoyed attending the yearly church assembly conventions. She had been employed as a waitress, and cook, at various locations in Randolph County, and retired as a temporary employee after having worked in several warehouses and factories. The majority of her life she was a loving housewife and grandmother. She loved to travel, on several occasions accompanying her husband in his semi-truck as he made his deliveries across the nation.

In addition to her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Shirley Lee; and, a brother, James Sutherland, Jr.

Survivors include five children, Deborah (Bill) Jones of Saratoga; Mark (Terry) Conyers of Weatherford, TX; Nathaniel Conyers of Middletown, OH; Timothy Conyers of Indianapolis; and, Sarah Conyers Fields of Union City, OH; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Short of Columbia, MD; Carolyn Smith of New Castle; and two brothers, Willie Southerland of Sanford, FL and Jerry Sutherland of North Carolina. Pauline will be missed by special friends Bob and Jeanette Sibery of Union City.

A service of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Sparrow Creek Friends Church, 4030W 50S, Winchester. Pauline’s son, Timothy, will be liturgist and give the first sermon; preacher will be Rev. Keith Groves of Indianapolis; and, Rev. Daniel and Angie Edwards will provide special music. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Hagerstown. Visitation with the family will follow at 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Meeting Place, 11 East Main Street, Hagerstown.
