Ralph D. Loyd Jr., 93, of Spiceland, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born on September 20, 1925 in Rush County to the late Ralph D. and Minnie (McMichael) Loyd Sr.

Ralph retired as a Trackman from the B&O Railroad in 1987. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. Ralph married Betty (Vogel) Loyd in 1948. They were married for 68 years. Together they had 5 children. Ralph was very proud of his garden and yard, both of which he cared for meticulously. He loved working outside and listening to music, especially old country. After retirement he and his wife volunteered at Hancock Regional Hospital until 2007. In the time served, they both volunteered over 3000 hours. He loved his grandkids and enjoyed family gatherings.

Ralph is survived by his children, Michael (Diana Jenkins) Loyd of Jeffersonville, Mark (Doris) Loyd of New Paris, Debbie (Mike) Denny of New Castle, Cheri (Bill) Vengley of Pismo Beach CA, David Loyd of Spiceland; grandchildren, Jodi Herr of Cambridge City, Jarrod (Genna) Borror of Indianapolis, Kati (Nate) Carter of Colorado Springs CO, Andy (Casey) Denny of Seymour, Paul (Cyndi) Denny of Greensburg; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty Loyd in 2016; and a brother, Ross McMichael.

Services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday August 24, 2019 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service with Ralph’s granddaughter, Kati Carter officiating.Burial will follow at Arlington East Hill Cemetery in Arlington, IN with military rites conducted by the Knightstown American Legion and US Army. Visitation will be on Friday August 23, 2019 from 5 PM to 8 PM.
