Obituaries - Randall Lee Massie

Randall Lee “Randy” Massie age 61 of Hillsboro died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Midwest Regional Medical Center in Zion, Illinois.

He was born August 18, 1955 in Troy, Ohio the son of the late Russell and Sarah Thompson Massie.
Randall served as a minister in the Churches of Christ /Christian Churches for twenty years in Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Indiana (including the Cambridge City Christian Church). He counseled many clients and supervised many devoted counselors as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Hillsboro at FRS Counseling for ten years. Also, Randall’s last years were spent as an Associate Professor at Southern State Community College in the Human and Social Services Program.

He was known for his meticulous intellect and love for those he taught. He was a favorite of all his students who loved to laugh and to learn from him. He received two Excellence in Teaching Awards during his professorship. His robust laugh and voice that echoed throughout the halls of SSCC will be missed. He left the world that he touched a much better place. He is survived by his wife, Carol Brotherton Massie who he had married on June 23, 2003 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, four daughters, Jessica Marie (Rodney) Kemplen of Richmond, Indiana, Nikki Rae Elkins (Klint Hill) of Waverly, Ohio, Tabitha Diane Massie of Richmond, Indiana, Ellen Faye Purvis (fiancé, Adam Bialecki of Grand Rapids, Ohio) of Hillsboro, Ohio, three grandsons, Mason Peed, Brayden Ross, Weslee Kemplen, one step-granddaughter, Renee Hill, and two brothers, James Russell (Barb) Massie of San Antonio, Texas and Michael Allyn Massie of Casstown, Ohio.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12th at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Charles Gorman will officiate. Friends may call on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Hillsboro churchof the Nazarene.

Memorial contributions may be made be made to the Randall Massie Scholarship at SSCC, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133. This scholarship is awarded to a student of need in the Human Services field every spring.
