Becky was born in Richmond, Indiana, and spent her childhood years with her parents, Elmer John and Esther Theresa Schwegman and her siblings at their hometown of Cambridge City, IN. She attended St. Gabriel’s Catholic School for grades one through five, Cambridge City Elementary School, Parkway Junior High School and Lincoln High School in Cambridge City. After graduating from high school in 1971, she attended Ball State University, where she received her undergraduate degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Audiology in 1975. She then moved to Blackshear, Georgia, where she worked for two years as a speech and language pathologist, organizing the first speech and language pathology program for the Pierce County School System. Continuing her professional education, she attended the University of Georgia, receiving her Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology in 1978. After graduation, she moved to Camilla, Georgia, where she completed the requirements for her Certificate of Clinical Competency. She then moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where she worked in the Hamilton County School System as a speech pathologist. After a year there, she married Robert Gary Wainright of St. Simons Island on August 1, 1981, and moved to the Island to reside with him. Shortly afterward, she began working in the Glynn County School System, where she worked at a number of different schools as a speech and language pathologist for 37 years, retiring in May 2015. She was a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association and attended St. Williams Catholic Church on the Island, where she taught Sunday school classes. In her work as a speech pathologist, Becky helped many children in Pierce and Glynn Counties to overcome a variety of speech problems that threatened their social and educational development. Becky is survived by her husband, R. Gary Wainright, and their two sons, Reeve Joseph Wainright and Robert “Bobby” John Wainright. Becky had four siblings, including three older brothers, Sylvan Schwegman (deceased) of Warsaw, IN, Frank Schwegman of Newcastle, IN and Steve Schwegman of Highland, IN and her sister, Brenda Schwegman Sheldon, of Culver, IN. Becky enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling, walking the beach and watching her sons and their friends swim and play in the sand and surf. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Heartland Hospice (located at 664 Scranton Rd #103, Brunswick, GA 31520), St. Williams Catholic Church on St. Simons, the American Cancer Society or another charity of the contributor’s choice.
