Robert L. Hurst, 97, of Connersville, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Heritage House of Connersville.
He was born in Fayette County, Indiana, on November 18, 1920 to Walter G. and Inez Hurst.
He attended Milton grade school and graduated from Connersville High School in 1938. He graduated from Purdue University in 1942. While there, he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.
He was married to Margaret Calhoun of Muncie, Indiana on August 10, 1944, and spent his entire life on the home farm, which has been in his family since 1848.
He helped organize the Fayette Co. Soil and Water Conservation District and served on the Board of Supervisors from 1953-1983. He also served on the Board of Supervisors of the Whitewater Valley Conservancy District. He was a director of the Wayne Co. REMC from 1960-1994 and also of the Fayette Co. Co-op from 1965-1996. He served as Deacon, Trustee, and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, Historic Connersville, and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; son, Lowell and daughter-in-law, Wendy, of Watsonville, CA; a daughter, Susan and son-in-law, David Walsh, of Oxford, OH; two grandchildren, Marcos and Alexis Hurst, of California, and two great-grandchildren, Marcos and Liliana, also of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Hurst, and a sister, Louise Hurst.
Visitation for Robert will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2018, from 4:00pm-8:00pm, at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home, Connersville. Masonic rites will be presented at 7:30pm, on Thursday at the funeral home, by Warren Lodge #15 F&AM.
The funeral service will be on Friday, September 28, at 11:00am, at First Presbyterian Church, 700 N. Central, Connersville. Reverend James Orr will officiate. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery.
