Robert Louis Uhte, age 86, of Converse, Texas passed away on Saturday December 21, 2019. Robert was born June 27, 1933 in Richmond, IN.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gwenda Uhte; brothers, Jay Uhte of Los Angeles, CA, Jerry Uhte of Richmond, Indiana, and Alan Uhte of Indianapolis, Indianna; and his son-in-law, Will Menke of Kerrville, TX. He is preceded in death by is daughter, Cynthia Uhte-Menke; brother Don Uhte of Richmond, IN; and close friend, Dan McGinnis of San Antonio, TX.
Robert joined the United States Army at the age of 18 and quickly rose through the ranks where he served the Korean War in 1952. Vietnam War in 1967 he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action. Later, He rose to Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted grade. He retired out of the Army in 1982 with 30 years of dedicated service. After retiring from the Army, Robert went to work 12 years U.S. Federal Civil Service in Randolph Air Force base and later retired from that position.
Robert was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 17, in Universal City, TX and the American Legions Post #593 in Converse, TX.
Visitation will be held January 6th from 8-9:30AM following funeral service at 9:30am with burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military Honors at 11am
