Robert William Humkey, age 59, of Darien, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 5, 2021.

Bob was one of seven boys born in Lebanon, Kentucky to parents Joseph and Dorothy Humkey. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. After graduation, Bob joined the Army and served as an Officer for the Military Police. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob became the head driving instructor for Walters State Community College and Police Academy while also serving as a reserve Deputy for the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department in Newport, Tennessee. After working with the NSA, he served at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center for over twenty years before retiring as a Chief of the Driver and Marine Division.

After retirement, Bob served his community by helping with the FOP, American Legion and VFW. He was a man of faith and was an active member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church where he served on the board and volunteered for various activities. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed boating. He was a funny, friendly person that enjoyed meeting people, never having met a stranger! He will be missed.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dan and Larry Humkey.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Humkey of Darien; four sons, Adam Humkey (Cara) of Darien, Matt Humkey (Kathleen) of Brunswick, Phillip Klapp (Meredith) of Hahira, GA, and Tim Klapp (Lauren) of Brunswick; two daughters, Lindsey Santillo (Chad) of Oviedo, FL and Anna Shackleford (Daniel) of Watkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Elise Klapp, Cooper and Oliver Santillo, Arthur and Stew Shackleford and Braylee Chism; four brothers, Joe Humkey (Anna) of FL, Don Humkey (Lynn) of TN, Pat Humkey of KY and Tommy Humkey (Rosemary) of KY; sister in law, Anna Nichols of Atlanta; mother-in-law Mary Karen Weedin of Brunswick, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in Darien.
