Roger E. Bass, age 74 of Richmond, passed away Sunday February 18, 2018, surrounded by his close friends at Reid Hospital. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, on September 29, 1943, to Ira and Mabel Lamb Bass.
Roger was a special and caring guy, he would do anything for anybody and always had a way of making people smile, he loved to tease and joke. The room seemed to brighten whenever he would enter. Roger was considered by many to be an “Icon” of Reid Hospital due to the number of lives that he touched and impacted.
He started volunteering at Reid in 1998 and had logged over 20,000 hours of time. He helped in many different departments over the years but there were a few different departments that held a special place in his heart including the Heart Services Team, Material Processing and Volunteer Services Department.
Roger was a resident of The Leland Legacy and had many special friends there. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by close friends and caretakers Rhonda Sickmann and Chelsea Eldridge who treated him as a member of their family. He is also survived by his dog Lola or as Roger referred to her “LaLa.” He is preceded in death by his parents Ira and Mabel Bass and brother Michael Bass.
A celebration of life will be at Reid Hospital at a later date.
