Sally M. Bales, 85, of Connersville, died Saturday evening, May 7th, 2022, at Reid Health Hospice in Richmond.

Sally was born November 24, 1936 in Connersville Indiana to Robert V. and Effie Viola Shires, both of whom preceded her in death. Sally was a member of the 1955 class of Connersville High School. On July 12, 1956, she married the love of her life Billy A. Bales at the Central Christian Church in Connersville. Sally was employed at Ford Motor Company from 1966 until her retirement in 1996. For twenty of those years, she served as union trustee for IUE, Local 919. She attended area Baptist churches and was for a time President of the American Little League Auxiliary, a member of Connersville Elks Lodge #379 auxiliary, as well as the Loyal Order of the Moose #1160 auxiliary; and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 1065 auxiliary. Sally enjoyed supporting her children’s sports endeavors throughout the years including Bob’s baseball, John and Gary’s wrestling, Danny’s track and field and Don’s football and drag racing. In addition, she enjoyed crochet, knitting and sewing and all types of crafts. She most enjoyed time with her family and friends, and she especially took pride in creating a big home cooked meal for the family with her beloved husband Bill, to gather and watch any number of sporting events she and Bill followed. She loved IU Basketball game, INDY 500, Notre Dame Football, Indianapolis Colts as well as Cincinnati Reds Baseball.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include her children: Jill Roberts; Don (Theresa) Bales; Tammy Bales all of Connersville; John (Cindy) Clifton of Spicewood Texas; grandchildren Stephanie (Eric) Shaffer of Indianapolis; Logan (Reygan) Seale of Connersville; Jay Bales, of Richmond; Kylee (Michael) Sizemore of Greenfield, Todd Greeson of Richmond, Allen Bales of Riverside California; numerous great-grandchildren: Madeline Shaffer, Elaine Shaffer, Jaxon Seale, Rowan Seale, Jayden Bales, Evelyn Bales, Ariya Bales, Millie Bales, Esai Greeson, Eli Greeson; daughters-in-law Karen Bales, Linda Robinson, very special son-in-law Daryl Seale and many friends.

In addition to her husband, and parents, Sally was preceded in death by three sons: Robert K. Bales, Gary D. Bales, Daniel J. Bales, a daughter Mary E. Clifton Oliver, grandson Jason D. Bales, very special nephew Donald Kimber “DK” Bales; one sister Edith Ward; four brothers: Jack, Jim, Robert and Gordon Shires. five brothers in law: Floyd, Albert, Louis, Arnold and Donald Bales; a sister-in-law: Beatrice Bales Clifton and a son-in-law, John Roberts.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday May 13th at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Jay Rowe of the Connersville officiating. Interment will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 12th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Animal Shelter or the Bales Family CHS Memorial Scholarship.
