Obituaries - Sarah A. Hilbert

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Sarah A. Hilbert, 91, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, October 26, 2017, at Reid Health.
She was born on August 18, 1926 to Harry and Agnes (Adrian) Shafer and was a lifelong resident of the Hagerstown area.

For over 30 years, she taught home economics in the Nettle Creek School system. She also owned and operated the L-Hil Dairy Farm. Sarah was a member of White Branch Church of the Brethren, where she served as Sunday School superintendent, teacher and district board member. She had been active as a 4-H leader, FHA advisor and member of the Henry County DHIA.

Survivors include five children, Lynn Hilbert (Cheryl) of Oregon, Lewayne Hilbert of Hagerstown, Londa Hight (Larry) of Spencer, Ladean Hilbert of Modoc and Laneal Hilbert of Cambridge City; 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis “Doc” Hilbert, in 1962 and three brothers, Ralph Shafer, Norman Shafer and Horace Shafer.

Visitation will be 11 AM to 12 noon on Monday, October 30, at Culberson Funeral Home, Hagerstown. Services will follow at 12 noon. Pastor Brian Mackie will officiate. Burial will follow in Brick Cemetery.
