Sidewalk Talk: Divided Nation

Jeff Windle

1. Yes
2. No doubt, that’s politics. Democrats, Republicans are dividing us up here.
3. That’s a good question right there. I don’t think the new leadership, or how this election turns out, is gonna make any big difference. We all got to get together. That’s a tough question and I don’t think I can answer that right now

Maddie Jackson

Visiting Cambridge City from Oklahoma

1. Not really, I’m not. People can’t be accepting really.
2. I, I’m not quite sure yet. I hope someone decides to step up. But, I’m not sure who or when.
3. I think to fix it, there definitely needs to be. Even Covid has separated this whole world from each other, we should at least try and work with each other together and bring people together and just convince people that everyone is equal and that it’s okay to be who you are. That’s what I think should be done.

Shelley Davis

Cambridge City

1. Not really
2. People acting like kindergarten kids.
3. I can’t say what I really want to say. I’d give them all a time out.

1. I don’t know if surprise is a good word, but I’m upset by it. I wish things weren’t like they are. Back in my earlier years, I didn’t feel like we were so divided. But, yes I guess I am surprised. I don’t know why. It’s probably more political. I think so many people in politics have forgotten about the general public. Not everyone, but there are several now.
2. Money. And power. Some people live on that, they live on power. They don’t really care about the general public as much as they used to. On the national level anyways, I don’t think it’s that way in the county, state, and Senate. I think they do care about us.
3. I don’t know if it is fixable. Getting rid of some of the contributors might be an answer. Whether that can be done or not. Again, it’s money, payoffs. I don’t know who and the facts wise, I can’t really argue who’s at fault. That would be the only way I can see is getting the ones out of there that are being paid off and start with new, more qualified people that care about the general people.

Tracie Robinson

Richmond

1. Yes. I am surprised and disappointed.
2. Misinformation, everyone not having all the facts.
3. I think that we all need to be more respectful of each other and all people.

Lamonte Owens

Richmond

1. Yes, I am surprised.
2. I really don’t know.
3. It is important to come back together.

Shawn Wright

Richmond

1. No, not really. It happens every election.
2. They (politicians) try to make it like a race.
3. Just look at people as people.

Mike Keifer

Hagerstown, Maryland

1. I’m not surprised at all, because the media has changed so much over the past several years, that the average person has no idea what the truth is anymore.
2. For the people in our United States to trust our government officials, those who have done wrong need to pay the price.
3. Each party needs to focus on what’s right for the people instead of trying to battle the other side and spend needless millions.

Steve Sokol

Fountain City

1. Unfortunately, no. Political decisions over the last three decades have led to this.
2. I think there used to be more unity and national values. Politicians seeking re-election and the erosion of values.
3. (Chuckles). One thing, I think definitely term limits could result in the interests of the country instead of the self-serving interests of the politicians.

Jason Brown

Hagerstown

1. Sadly, I’m not.
2. The over politicizing of every issue for one party’s gain or loss. We’ve come to believe that whoever talks the loudest is right.
3. We need to put down our phones, turn off the news and go out and talk to our neighbors. I think we’ll find we’re really not that far apart or different.

Farley Long

Danbury, North Carolina

1. Yes, it’s a shocker.
2. Us versus them. You’re either one of us or you’re one of them. It’s always been that way but we’ve just never been able to see it before. Some of it’s you newspapers, you know.
3. We’ve gotta work together, some way, somehow.
