Susan J. Oaks, 74 of Richmond, Indiana passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021.
She was born on January 12, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Merrill G. and Mildred F. (Garrigus) Oaks. Susan is survived by her brother, Stephen Oaks (Brenda); nephews, Heath Oaks (Emily), Kyle Oaks (Adrienne) and Michael Oaks; nieces, Rachel Oaks and Stephanie Deeter (Darren); three great nephews and five great nieces. Susan was preceded in passing by her parents and lifelong friend, Debbie Stapleton.
Susan was a 1965 graduate of Franklin Community High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Indiana State and her Master’s degree in Education from Ball State University.
Susan was a School Teacher, teaching in Centerville, Indiana, Stone Mountain, Georgia and finishing her career in Richmond, Indiana, retiring after thirty-three years of dedicated service.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Richmond and the Indiana State Teacher’s Association. Susan was active in the community serving meals on wheels. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Macanaw Island, Michigan, Georgia and Florida.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Service at 8:00 p.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. A private family burial will be conducted on Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery.
