Several local fire departments are responding to a blaze near the intersection of South Round Barn Road and U.S. 40 near Centerville.

Wayne County 911 reported a call of a structure fire at 6:08 p.m. Thursday on its Twitter page.

Witnesses say the fire is at Red Diamond Diesel automotive parts store at 4104 W. National Road in Richmond. Hill Electric is the neighboring property.

A Centerville Fire Department station is across the street from the blaze. Centerville added a second fire station last fall to help speed response times to incidents on the town’s far-east side.

Early information from the C.O.P.S. Reloaded Wayne County, Indiana Facebook group indicates all people in the building were able to get out and are being checked by emergency medical personnel, but that has not been confirmed by officials.

A resident posted on the Facebook group that she can smell the smoke three-quarters of a mile away.

Motorists are reportedly prohibited from traveling on U.S. 40 between Salisbury Road and Round Barn Road.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
