Van Eric Van Meter departed this life, unexpectedly on February 15, 2021. Van was born on April 24, 1965 in Richmond, Indiana to Robert H. Van Meter and Nina F. Wright-Van Meter. He was known for his infectious smile, love of dancing, outgoing personality, oatmeal scotchies, and chocolate chip cookies. Van was talented in multiple areas, and willing to help other whenever needed. He attended Richmond Community Schools, Purdue University, and Ivy Tech College and was scheduled to attend Miami Valley Career Technical Center.

Van joined the Richmond Fire Department on April 22, 1996 and retired on May 29, 2022. He also worked with a variety of other companies, before and during his employment with the Richmond Fire Department.

He leaves to morn his passing, two wonderful sons, who he loved dearly Evan Riley and Erik Michael Van Meter (Debbie) of Lexington, NC; his twin brother Vaughn Even Van Meter of Richmond, Indiana three sisters Ellen Van Meter-Mabry (David), Sherri Brown of Richmond and Marlyn Hill (Doug) of Houston, TX; special nieces and nephews Vasqueral and Russell Mabry, Tyson and Robert Van Meter, Ashley, Andrea “Muff” and Jalyn Van Meter-Jackson; great-nieces and nephews D’Mari Mabry, Ja’Curion and Adrianna Van Meter-Jackson, a host of great and great-great nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be missed by special friends Lee Ann Goeke, Vicky Neal, Eric Holmes, Bill McGathey, Cathy “Boss Lady” Williams, Dewayne Eaton, Mike Foust, Richard Robinson, Darlene, Everett and Barry Bickel and his firefighter family of the Richmond Fire Department and many other friends that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nina and Robert Van Meter, sisters Leandra Black and Angela Van Meter, nephews Brent Hampton and David Mabry Jr., niece Jakhia Van Meter-Lewis and special friend Darrin Bickel.

Funeral service for Van will be held on Saturday February 27, 2021 from 12pm-2pm at Community Family Funeral Home with a service to follow at 2pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Condolences and guest book entries may be made at www.communityfamilyfh.com
