Walter Bryant, Jr., 82, formerly of Wayne County, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home in West Manchester, Ohio on Sunday, April 24.

Walter was born in Crab Orchard, Kentucky on February 11, 1940 to Walter, Sr. and Mirley May Saylor Bryant.

Walter was raised in the Baptist faith. He was united in marriage to the former Helen M. Lipscomb Simpson on October 19, 1957. They were blessed with 44 years of marriage before her death on Christmas Eve 2001. Early in his working life, he worked 7 years at Beckett’s Elevator and 2 years at Geetings Auto Service. He later took a job at Dana Corporation, from where he retired after 30 years of service. Walter enjoyed going fishing, watching baseball and taking trips to the casinos.

Walter will be missed by his daughters, Peg Hachmann & husband, Stuart, Sally Burton & husband, Robert; sons, Johnny Simpson and Timothy Bryant; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Maurice Bryant and John Bryant and several nieces & nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, longtime companion, Earline Sizemore; daughter, Sharon McClain; sons, Rickie Simpson, Tommy Simpson and Dennis Bryant; sisters, Jewel Begley, Hester Creech and Mildred Bailey; brothers, Ulysses Bryant, Edward Bryant and Billy Bryant.

Funeral services for Walter will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 30, at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, 321 US 27 South, Fountain City. Interment will follow in Willow Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12-2 pm on Saturday, April 30, at the funeral home.
