Obituaries - William E. “Bill” Moistner

NEW CASTLE – William E. “Bill” Moistner, 84, passed away Wednesday morning October 11, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

A son of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Rogers) Moistner, Bill was born at home in rural Cambridge City, Indiana on March 27, 1933.

Bill graduated from Bentonville High School in 1951. Bill liked to boast that he graduated in the top 10 of his class (only 10 in his class). Following high school Bill served his country in the United States Army. Early in life he lived in Western Wayne County and has made his home in New Castle since 1982. He was an electrician by trade for Air Way and Target Department Stores and also worked in plumbing. He did machine repair for Gaar Nursery for several years. Bill was a former member of the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post in Cambridge City and in his leisure, enjoyed pitching horse shoes, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Carrie L. Sturgeon. They were married at the home of the bride in Cambridge City on October 2, 1959. 7 children, Vic (Kay) Moistner, Teresa Davis, Carrie Moistner and Terri (Shane) Griffith all of New Castle, William (Glenda) Moistner of Hillsboro, Rob (Susan) Moistner of Centerville and Tracy (Dianna) Moistner of Anderson; 29 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Carolyn Rayburn of Dublin and Les Moistner of Centerville; several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Linda Wilson, Anna Mae Smith and Paul Moistner.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday October 15th at the Marshall & Erlewein Funeral Home, Dublin. Cremation will follow.
