WILLIAMSBURG, Ind. – A woman trapped in her vehicle early Thursday afternoon was transported to a Dayton, Ohio, hospital with possible serious injuries.
Indiana State Police was called to Lewis Road west of Williamsburg around 1:30 p.m. Thursday after a Chevrolet Impala reportedly went off the right side of the road into a tree.
Master Trooper Dan Jones arrived to find the driver, Linda Opel, 63, of Williamsburg suffering from a laceration to her head and trapped in her vehicle.
Williamsburg Fire and Rescue arrived and extricated Opel from the Impala. Red Line EMS then transported Opel to Reid Health in Richmond where she received treatment before being taken by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Jones’ preliminary investigation indicated that Opel was northbound on Lewis Road when she lost control of her vehicle. The car left the right side of the road and its right front corner hit a tree, an ISP news release said.
Police said the roadway was dry at the scene and it’s believed that speed played a role in the crash. Opel was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the release said.
